Bio

1 revision

The eldest of the famous Matera trio, Wally Matera was recruited from South Fremantle to join the West Coast Eagles' inaugural squad in 1987. A diminutive rover possessing the trademark family pace and goal sense, he played 24 games for the Eagles before crossing the Nullarbor to join Fitzroy ahead of the 1989 season. Although his career was shorter than that of his younger siblings Peter and Phil, he provided spark as a crumbing forward for the Lions and maintained a respectable goal-per-game average across his four years at the elite level before leaving the league at the end of 1990.
