Williamstown beat Footscray in a VFA grand final played at Fitzroy Cricket Ground, the only time that ground hosted a VFA finals match, because a hailstorm replay pushed the date past East Melbourne's closure.
The original final on 8 October was abandoned in the third quarter at Williamstown's insistence while it led by four points.
Grounds
Richmond, dissatisfied with the VFA, applied to join the VFL, and the application was unanimously accepted five days later.
Richmond played its first VFL season in 1908.
