Bio
Recruited from within Richmond's development zone, Allan Edwards debuted as a teenager but found it difficult to cement a permanent spot in the Tigers' formidable lineup of the mid-1970s. His career trajectory changed dramatically during the 1979 season when he became the centre of a high-profile clearance wrangle, eventually crossing to Collingwood mid-year for a substantial transfer fee. The move allowed him to step out of the shadows of Richmond's star forwards and establish himself as a primary target at his new club.
At Victoria Park, Edwards developed into a reliable key forward known for his strong marking hands and accurate finishing. He enjoyed his most consistent football with the Magpies, culminating in his 1983 campaign where he topped the club's goalkicking list. Despite this personal success, he moved to Footscray the following season, where he spent two years adding veteran experience to the Bulldogs' attack before retiring at the conclusion of the 1985 season.
