Bio
Born into one of Australian football's most prominent families, Allan Strang was the son of South Melbourne veteran Bill and the younger brother of Richmond premiership stars Doug and Gordon. A marking forward with a strong presence in attack, he was recruited from Albury after a stint with St George in Sydney, joining his father's old club at the Lake Oval in 1947. While he showed promise by booting 17 goals in just 15 games, the difficulties of commuting from the country eventually took their toll on his VFL career. He departed the league after the 1948 season but found further success in the VFA, playing in Williamstown's 1949 premiership side before returning to the Riverina to captain-coach Wagga.
