Bio
Born into Tigerland royalty as the son of Doug Strang and nephew of Gordon, Geoff Strang overcame an initial bout of homesickness that interrupted his debut 1965 season to become a premier defender of the Tom Hafey era. Recruited from Albury, he eventually settled into a permanent role as a dashing half-back flanker, where his electrifying pace and ability to read the play allowed him to launch counter-attacks with lethal efficiency. Renowned as a safe mark and one of the league's finest exponents of the drop kick, Strang was a vital component of the drought-breaking 1967 premiership side and the 1969 flag-winning team. After seven seasons at Punt Road, he transferred to North Adelaide to play under former teammate Mike Patterson, capping his career by playing a key role in the Roosters' 1972 SANFL premiership victory.
