Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Ovens & Murray League as part of a specific country recruiting drive, Doug Strang arrived at Punt Road in 1931 alongside his brother Gordon and immediately established himself as a potent key forward. A strong overhead mark with a lethal long drop kick, he wasted no time writing his name into the record books, booting a club-record 14 goals in just his second VFL game against North Melbourne. He topped the Tigers' goalkicking list in his first three seasons and played a vital role in the 1932 Premiership triumph, but persistent knee and thigh injuries forced him out of league football at just 23 years of age. Strang eventually returned to the country to captain-coach Kyneton and Albury, leaving behind a brief but explosive VFL legacy that was later carried on by his son, dual premiership defender Geoff Strang.
