Bio
Hailing from Wodonga in the Ovens and Murray League, John Perry arrived at Punt Road with an impeccable football pedigree as part of the famous Strang dynasty, being the grandson of Bill and nephew of Doug and Gordon. A pacy, blonde left-footer who typically operated on a wing or half-forward flank, his early years at Richmond were heavily interrupted by National Service, a broken shoulder, and a bout of hepatitis. despite these setbacks, he etched his name into Tiger history as a member of the drought-breaking 1967 premiership side, coming off the bench in the Grand Final win over Geelong. struggling to hold a regular senior spot in a star-studded lineup—and notably missing out on the 1969 flag as an emergency—he transferred to North Melbourne in 1970 in search of greater opportunities. The move proved successful, as Perry became a consistent senior regular for the Kangaroos over five seasons, adding experience and skill to their midfield rotation before eventually returning to country football.
