Bio
Arriving at Windy Hill with the weight of a famous footballing dynasty on his shoulders, Jack Hiskins was the son of Essendon champion Fred Hiskins and nephew to VFL stalwarts Arthur, Rupe, and Stan. Recruited from Rutherglen, the half-back did not possess the explosive ability of his father but was a serviceable defender who featured regularly throughout the 1934 season. After managing just three senior appearances early in 1935, he elected to return to the Ovens & Murray League mid-year rather than linger in the reserves. It proved a shrewd move, as he immediately coached Rutherglen to the 1935 premiership and subsequently led the club as captain-coach for over a decade, carving out a significant legacy in regional football.
