Bio
Hailing from the famous footballing dynasty of Rutherglen, Rupe Hiskins was the fourth of his brothers to play at the highest level, arriving at Princes Park only after serving with the Light Horse Brigade during World War I. This military service meant he did not make his VFL debut until the age of 26, but he quickly made up for lost time as a physically imposing and versatile follower. A barrel-chested blacksmith by trade, Hiskins possessed the heavy frame of a ruckman but the surprising agility of a flanker, often bursting through packs to drive the ball forward or drifting back to take intercept marks in defence. He was a key figure in the Blues' 1921 campaign, playing in the Grand Final loss to Richmond, and remained a consistent performer for five seasons before finishing his career with a premiership at Brunswick in the VFA.
