Teams

A high-flying full forward from the local Richmond area, Jack O'Rourke is remembered as a prolific scorer whose promising VFL career was all too brief. After serving an apprenticeship in the reserves and spending a season with South Warrnambool, O'Rourke returned to Punt Road in 1949 and quickly established himself as the Tigers' focal point in attack. He was renowned for his spectacular aerial skills—including a famous, albeit technically disallowed, screamer over Collingwood’s Jack Hamilton—and his reliability in front of the big sticks. O'Rourke topped the club’s goalkicking in consecutive years (1951 and 1952) and earned Victorian state selection, but injuries and a decision to return to country football saw him walk away from the league at just 25 years of age.
