Capable of playing as a lead-up forward or an intercepting defender, the Gippsland Power product showcased strong aerobic capacity for his size but found consistency elusive at the senior level. He spent four seasons at Waverley Park on the fringe of selection, managing just 10 games as the Hawks prioritised other key position options. Seeking greater opportunity after a stagnated stint in brown and gold, Serong moved to Sydney for the 2026 season, looking to revitalise his career and provide structural depth for the Swans.
