Bio
Recruited from Bulleen-Templestowe, Richard Osborne burst onto the scene at Fitzroy as a talented teenager, quickly establishing himself as one of the league's most dangerous key forwards. A mobile centre half-forward with strong hands and a precise set shot, Osborne became the face of the Lions during a turbulent era, eventually captaining the club and winning the best and fairest in 1984. His ability to turn matches with rapid bursts of goalkicking was frequently hampered by chronic knee issues, requiring multiple reconstructions that forced him to adapt his game and play through significant pain throughout his tenure.
After a high-profile departure from Fitzroy following the 1992 season, Osborne became a football journeyman, joining Sydney for a single year before finding a more settled role at the Western Bulldogs. At the Whitten Oval, he revitalised his career as a crafty forward option, helping guide a young list before finishing his playing days with a two-year stint at Collingwood. Despite representing four clubs, his legacy is firmly tethered to his resilience and scoring power during his decade at Fitzroy, retiring with an impressive games record that defied his extensive medical history.
