Recruited from Rutherglen in the Ovens and Murray League, Tom Hallahan was a forward who carried a strong family pedigree into the VFL. The son of former St Kilda player Jim Hallahan and older brother to future Footscray standout Jim Hallahan Jr, Tom commenced his career with Collingwood in 1932. He showed aptitude near the big sticks during his brief stint at Victoria Park, booting nine goals in nine appearances, but crossed to his father's old club, St Kilda, the following season. Hallahan managed a further 14 games over two years at the Junction Oval but was unable to replicate his scoring form in the tricolours, adding just three majors to his tally before his league career concluded.
