Bio
A father-son recruit for the Western Bulldogs, Zaine Cordy carved out a reputation as a gritty and selfless key position player who famously played a pivotal role in the club's fairytale 2016 Premiership. While primarily developed as a defender, he was swung into the forward line late in the 2016 season by coach Luke Beveridge to provide structural contests and defensive pressure. The tactical gamble paid off spectacularly, with Cordy booting the opening goal of the Grand Final and earning a premiership medallion in just his 11th senior game. Over the following years at the Kennel, he settled back into defence, known for his ability to lock down on dangerous opponents and sacrifice his own game for the team structure.
At the conclusion of the 2022 season, Cordy exercised his rights as an unrestricted free agent to join St Kilda, seeking fresh opportunities and greater security. He spent three seasons at Moorabbin, serving as a versatile depth option capable of plugging holes in defence or attack when injuries struck the Saints' key stocks. Despite fighting hard for a consistent spot in the best 22, he was delisted at the end of the 2025 season, retiring as a premiership hero who squeezed every ounce of potential out of his career through determination and tactical flexibility.
