Bio
Recruited by the Western Bulldogs with pick 7 in the 2018 National Draft, Bailey Smith immediately impacted the AFL landscape with his elite endurance and ball-winning ability. A product of the Sandringham Dragons, he quickly established himself as a gut-running midfielder capable of operating on a wing or pushing forward to hit the scoreboard. Smith became a cult figure at the Bulldogs, most notably for his dominant performance during the 2021 finals series, where his clutch goal-kicking in the semi-final against Brisbane was pivotal in driving the club to a Grand Final appearance.
Smith's tenure at Whitten Oval concluded under challenging circumstances following a 2024 season completely wiped out by an ACL injury sustained during pre-season training. Amidst lingering speculation regarding his long-term role within the Bulldogs' depth-heavy midfield and a desire for a fresh environment, he requested a trade at the conclusion of his contract. Smith moved to Geelong ahead of the 2025 season, looking to re-establish himself as a premier ball-winner and complete his rehabilitation under Chris Scott.
