Bio
Recruited from County Kerry in Ireland, Mark O'Connor joined Geelong as an international rookie in late 2016, following a successful Gaelic football career at minor level. While many international converts require a lengthy apprenticeship in the state leagues, O'Connor adapted quickly to the nuances of the oval ball, making his senior debut in his first season. He soon established himself as a disciplined and versatile utility, valued highly by the coaching staff for his ability to execute specific tactical roles. Whether deployed as a lockdown defender or a run-with midfielder tagging the opposition's prime movers, his reliability and defensive accountability became his trademarks.
O'Connor played a pivotal role in Geelong's 2022 premiership campaign, featuring in the Grand Final victory over Sydney. Over the years, he evolved from a raw prospect into a genuine leader at the club, often tasked with nullifying some of the competition's most dangerous players. By 2026, he had amassed significant experience, cementing his standing as one of the most successful Irish imports in VFL/AFL history and serving as a dependable fixture in the Cats' lineup.
