Bio
Drafted by Geelong with pick 39 in the 2008 National Draft, Steven Motlop emerged from a prominent footballing family to become one of the competition's most exciting line-breakers. Possessing elite speed, agility, and an instinctive goal sense, he overcame early shoulder injuries to establish himself as a key weapon in the Cats' forward line and midfield rotation. His time at Kardinia Park was defined by his mercurial nature; he was capable of tearing games apart with moments of individual brilliance, though he also faced periodic scrutiny regarding his consistency and defensive pressure.
Seeking a fresh start at the end of 2017, Motlop exercised his rights as a restricted free agent to join Port Adelaide, choosing the Power despite strong interest from the Adelaide Crows and Gold Coast. He made a memorable impact in his debut season at Alberton, etching his name into Showdown folklore with a match-winning goal in the dying seconds against the Crows. While he continued to provide a spark and veteran experience for the Power, his output gradually tapered in his final years. He announced his immediate retirement midway through the 2022 season, finishing his career as a highly skilled player who thrilled fans with his natural flair.
