Melbourne built a 33 point lead over Hawthorn at Waverley in the first quarter, and sparked a brawl involving all but two players on the ground, then wasted the rest of the day.

From then on Melbourne kicked just 2.20, in what the page calls three quarters of the most wasteful football ever seen on the ground.
