Bio
The son of VFL/AFL games record holder Michael Tuck, Shane carried one of the most famous surnames in football but took a circuitous route to the elite level. Originally rookie-listed by his father's club Hawthorn, he was delisted without playing a senior game and forced to prove his worth in the SANFL with West Adelaide. His prolific state-league form eventually earned him a lifeline from Richmond, who selected him as a mature-age recruit with pick 73 in the 2003 National Draft.
At Punt Road, Tuck evolved into the archetypal inside midfielder, using his 189cm frame to dominate stoppages and win contested ball. While he sometimes lacked the polish of the competition's elite, his courageous approach and ability to extract the football made him indispensable during a challenging era for the Tigers. He was a model of durability and consistency, finishing in the top ten of the Jack Dyer Medal seven times. Tuck retired in 2013 as a Richmond Life Member, revered by fans for his toughness and selfless work ethic in the engine room.
