The Footscray v North Melbourne VFA semi-final ended with no result when the crowd flooded the field on the final bell and stopped North Melbourne's Considine from taking a set shot for goal.

The Association ruled two days later that the match remained undecided and ordered a full replay the following Saturday.

An estimated 10,000 fans were let in free as the crowd pressed at the gates for the SANFL Grand Final at Football Park, officially 66,897, still the ground's record.

Officials let many fans watch from inside the fence on the perimeter of the oval.
