Port Melbourne beat Footscray 9.23 to 0.0 at the Port Melbourne Cricket Ground, with Footscray failing even to attempt a shot on goal.

It remains the only time a club has been held scoreless in a senior VFA match since the modern scoring system began in 1897.

Fitzroy beat Port Melbourne at the Port Melbourne Cricket Ground, but the VFA upheld a protest that Jack Worrall marked for Fitzroy's first goal after a half time bell nobody had heard, and the win became a draw.

The football writer Follower refused to recognise the ruling and kept publishing a ladder with the win standing.
